Leaders are creative, resourceful, and whole.
Every day, leaders navigate Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, and Ambiguous (VUCA) systems.* These systems are everywhere -- in the world, culture, interpersonal and social dynamics, organizations, families, and communities. Too often, leaders believe that if they are smart, hard working, and use the latest and greatest leadership practices, they can find the best solution. But there are no solutions to complex challenges. In fact, complex challenges cannot be solved. They can only be navigated and managed.
For many leaders who experience anti-Black racism and other intersectional forms of oppression, there are additional complexities in VUCA systems to navigate and manage. Historical violence has created a power structure that benefits White people and institutions. BEN Systems Leadership Coaching recognizes both the complex social, political, and material challenges faced by leaders from marginalized communities; and values leaders' social, cultural, political, ecological, and spiritual identities.
In the context of these VUCA systems, leaders tend to spend a disproportionate amount time trying to change the systems without investing time and energy in the personal changes required of themselves to do so. Unfortunately, most work structures do not provide leaders with this level of personal support and development to navigate complex systems and to access their own power.
BEN Systems Leadership Coaching believes in and supports the power of leaders to learn and grow, and to navigate and manage VUCA systems.
In coaching, Leaders commit to
Curiosity, willingness, and openness;
Courage (to trust and share);
Bringing a topic to each session,
Being present and prompt for each session; and
Accountability and completing action steps.
